Headphones have become an integral attribute of modern smartphones and other electronic devices. However, they quite often fail. We will talk about one of the common problems and methods for its elimination in our article.
The user is faced with a situation where there is sound in the headset, and speech is barely distinguishable or not reproduced. The reasons for this can be divided into two categories.
The first source is associated with the accessory itself:
- failure due to poor product quality,
- mechanical damage to the cord caused it to break.
The second option indicates a problem in the electronics:
- the plug is incorrectly connected to the audio jack, or the latter is faulty,
- the driver is out of date or out of order
- on some devices there is the option "Karaoke", in the operating mode it interferes with the functioning of the audio equipment,
- The surround function may conflict with the connected model.
IMPORTANT. In the manufacture of cheap products, low-quality materials and components are used, which increases the risk of their frequent breakdowns and unstable operation.
How to fix the problem
First, determine the source of the problem:
Connect the headphones to another device. It often happens that the accessory connected to the computer produces an erroneous sound, and when connected to the phone, the problem disappears.
Connect other equipment (speakers, etc.) to the connector on the PC.
Procedure for incorrect headset operation:
- We are trying to change the settings, for this we go along the path Control Panel - Equipment and Sound (Sound) - Playback. On the last tab, select the headphones and click Properties - Levels - the Balance button. On the left channel we set 50, with the right side you have to experiment at different levels until you reach the optimal sound of the voice.
- You can set the value of the left side to 100, the right to 0. According to user reviews, this method has helped many to restore normal sound.
NOTE. Depending on the OS, section names may vary slightly.
Alternatively, in the Properties section, go to the Additional Features section and turn off all effects in the window if they are activated.
In the event of a cable break for self-repair, knowledge of the basis of soldering is necessary.

The device will help determine the location of the cable damage. The wire most often can be frayed near the headphones or next to the plug. Strip these areas carefully and check for integrity. Then fix the problem.

If problems with the accessory are not detected, start with the audio input on the PC:
- We inspect the nest, if any foreign matter is detected, carefully remove the dirt.
- Mechanical damage to the contact part will require replacement of the port. It can also be repaired on its own using soldering, eliminating the place of cliffs on the tracks.
- In some cases, the plug may hang in the connector. Make sure the connection is tight; in case of poor contact, purchase an adapter.
We proceed to check the software part:
Check the relevance and performance of the drivers. Start - Control Panel - Sound, activate Device Manager. In the window that opens, open the Sound, video and gaming devices item. We look if there is an exclamation mark next to the required device. Using RMB, select "Update Drivers" in the context menu.
ON A NOTE. You can go to the website of the manufacturer of the sound card and download the necessary application according to the version of your PC.
The Karaoke tool can be found and disabled if you use the Improvements tab in the Properties section. If the item Voice suppression is activated in it, uncheck the box.
The option "Windows Sonic" (surround sound) is disabled in the track, use RMB on the speaker image and select Spatial Sound (Turn Off).
If the problem arose on the smartphone, proceed according to the scheme:
- We check the audio contact for integrity and the absence of contamination.
- Change the equalizer settings, setting them by default.
If you recently installed a new utility for sound (for example, an amplifier), then we try in stages (depending on the result) of the technique:
- uninstall a program
- System Restore,
- full phone firmware.
