How to remove dents on linoleum

Despite all the advantages of linoleum, its properties and appearance often change. This happens in the process of moving furniture when dents appear. You must select the appropriate method to eliminate these defects.

Ways to remove a dent in linoleum

There are 2 main methods for removing dents on the surface:

  1. Conservative. These methods include the elimination of defects using improvised means.
  2. Radical. These methods include partial or complete dismantling of the coating to replace or move the damaged area.

Conservative

Conservative methods will allow you to remove small defects using improvised means. The result will depend on the size of the damage. There are several ways:

  1. Kettlebell or heavy roller. These items are used to roll damaged areas. It will help get rid of small dents.
  2. Hair dryer and roller. Before starting work, the coating must be heated with a hairdryer. So we will make it elastic, and this will allow you to align the defect. But you must be careful when heating, so as not to melt the linoleum. Using this method can take a lot of time, sometimes it will be necessary to do warming and leveling several times due to frequent interruptions to allow the coating to cool.
  3. Cushion, ammonia and iron. This method is similar to the past, but you can not put a heated iron on linoleum. We need to take a small piece of cloth and soak it in ammonia. We spread it around the perimeter of the dent in several layers. Now we need to heat the iron. We put on a gauze bandage to protect the respiratory tract from steam. We put the iron on the fabric and press down well. We warm the surface for about a minute. Then we remove the fabric and iron. We roll the linoleum with a roller, pressing on it. Repeat this several times.

Attention! This is a very effective method, since such a heating method will avoid melting. Sometimes, a dent is leveled without using a roller. But remember that the dent will not disappear right away. You may need to repeat the heating several tens of times.

Radical

Radical methods are suitable if conservative methods have not given the desired result. But this is not suitable for every case.

The most famous radical method is the complete dismantling of the coating. Then it will need to be folded in the opposite direction. This method is only suitable for rooms of the correct form. Otherwise, it will not be possible to return linoleum correctly, and the appearance of the room will be worse than it was before dismantling.

Use this method only if the linoleum was not fixed with glue. If you used adhesive tape during installation, dismantling the coating will work without problems. But glued linoleum cannot be removed.

Reference! The essence of this method is not to eliminate a dent, but to change its position so that it does not strike the eye very much.

How to replace a damaged area of linoleum

Partial dismantling of the coating is appropriate if a deep dent appears. To do this, you need a piece of linoleum of the same shape, color and size as it was before.

This is done as follows:

  1. The deformed part is cut with a sharp knife.
  2. Using glue or scotch tape, we put in this place the same piece of linoleum.
  3. We fix it.
  4. To remove the seams, the joint between the main part of the canvas and the added piece must be processed by cold welding.

Any housewife can remove such defects on the surface. The most important thing is to follow the instructions.
