DIY soaring bed

A soaring bed is a bed in which no support elements are visible. It seems like she is flying. It's all about a well-hidden support. And the impression can be enhanced by making the backlight. You can make a similar design with your own hands.

How to make a soaring bed with your own hands

To create a floating bed with your own hands you need:

  1. Choose the type of bed, and solve the design issue.
  2. Create a project.
  3. Purchase materials.
  4. Cook the tools.
  5. Create a design.

What is required for this

To create a bed you will need the following tools:

  1. Hacksaw.
  2. Saw.
  3. Jigsaw.
  4. Screwdriver.
  5. Drill and drill.
  6. Hammer and screwdriver.
  7. Pliers.
  8. Awl.
  9. Roulette, ruler and square.
  10. Glue with a brush.
  11. Bolts, screws and furniture corners.

Nuances and important aspects of the design

One of the most important nuances is the choice of material for the design. We have 4 choices:

  1. Wood. If we decided to create a house structure with our own hands, we should dwell on this material. Wood is easy to cut and process. But it is recommended to choose a solid breed of wood, and will take care of moisture protection in advance. Screws and bolts are suitable as fixing parts. The strength of a wooden bed will depend on the quality of the selected material, fixtures, and proper assembly.
  2. Metal. Processing is several times more difficult, since the use of a welding machine is required. Only bolts can be used as fasteners, but this only works if welding is not possible. Particular attention must be paid to the fastening parts, since they break more often. The material itself is very durable. You can also use a combination of bolts and welding, This will disassemble the structure if it needs to be moved.
  3. The combination of materials. We can use both wood and metal. This will make assembly work easier and the weight of some structural parts will be lower. Strong metal can be used to create fasteners and places that need to be made strong. And the tree is suitable for parts that are difficult to process. This will solve all the problems that arise during assembly.
  4. Sheet materials (MDF, plywood and fiberboard). With their help, the lying place can be made as flat as possible. In addition, they are suitable for creating additional devices (bedside tables and shelves next to the bed). We need polyurethane foam or foam to create soft beds.

Drawings and schemes

The main goals of creating the drawing are to think over all the work, clarify the details that will fix the design and detect potential errors.

The average thickness of the board that will be used for the frame is 5 cm. In construction stores, pine boards are most often sold. It is necessary to calculate the amount of material (depends on the size of the person).

Attention! The bed can be either single or double. Calculations of length - 20-30 cm longer than the growth of the one who will sleep (average bed length of about 2 meters). The same with the width (average about 80 cm).

Soaring bed alone: step by step

To create a bed you need the following:

  1. Make a frame frame. Cut 2 long pieces of pipe (pipe length = mattress length). You also need to cut off a few short ones (subtract the double thickness of the pipe from the width of the mattress).
  2. We weld them on an even plane. This will prevent the frame from warping.
  3. Strip the assembled frame (uneven edges may appear during welding or pipe cutting).
  4. We collect the support. We have 2 choices - design, in the very center of the frame or create several supports at once, which will be located at a distance from the frame (about 30 cm).
  5. The central support makes the bed soar above the floor. But it requires a large platform for screwing to the floor. We need to weld 4 vertical strips (they create height). Inclined strips are also welded (they give rigidity). It is not recommended to make the connection of the support and the frame, as this will interfere with the process of moving the frame. Bolts are better for fastenings.
  6. Now you can attach the sleeping place to the frame. We use bolts or a welding machine.
  7. Now it's time to do the headboard. It is made as a separate unit, which is firmly attached to the wall. We attach a frame to the head. This will make the structure motionless and stable. The width of the headboard will be equal to the width of the berth, plus shelves on both sides. They can be made without supports (this will enhance the effect of a flying bed). Shelves can be made separately, or combined with the headboard (depends on the desire of the person). Make the headboard easy. The most important thing is to beautifully design the front panel. When choosing a material, it should be borne in mind that the headboard is often washed and dirty, and repairs and cleaning are not always possible.
  8. You can mount the head to the wall. Bolts are suitable for this. The amount depends on the strength of the support, but the more the better. If you want to reduce the load on the wall, you can install another support for the head.
  9. The last step is to set the backlight. For this, LED strips are suitable. They are installed at the bottom of the frame. The most important thing is that the tape itself is not visible, but only light. Mounting the tape is simple - one side is sticky. But if the tape is constantly falling, you can use superglue.

Making a soaring bed with your own hands is not difficult. On the Internet there are a lot of photos of master classes that will help to create the design correctly. It is important to choose the right material, and pay special attention to the support and fasteners.
