What is the TV timeshift function?

The times when televisions were only color or black and white have irrevocably gone. Modern models have a wide variety of functions and sometimes it can be quite difficult to understand. For example, the timeshif function - what is it, is it needed and how to use it?

What is the TV timeshift function?

There are situations when a distant telephone ring distracts you from watching an interesting program or there is a desire to treat yourself to a seagull. There can be many reasons and each time you have to wait for an advertising break or answer the phone and skip part of an interesting story.

Modern TV models free from these inconveniences. Using timeshift technology, you can escape from your favorite series, and then continue viewing from the same place. That is, the time shift allows you to stop your favorite sports show, series and more.

Timeshift function how it works

This technology has many modern TVs with Smart-TV. It can be translated into Russian as a “time shift”. Thus, it allows not only to stop the broadcast at the right time, but also to view the broadcast in more detail and frame-by-frame, return to the beginning or fast forward.

The technology is pretty simple. When a pause is pressed, the TV starts recording to the flash media. As a medium, you can use either a regular flash drive or an external hard drive.

This feature appeared back in 2006, although at that time the hard drive was mounted on the TV. However, then there was a significant minus - when the space on the media ran out, the TV began to overwrite the beginning of the recording.

Now manufacturers offer to save data both on external media and on cloud storage, which is located on their servers. To use the second method of storing information, you must register in the system and make the necessary settings. How to do this step by step is explained in the instructions that came with the TV.

REFERENCE! The function allows you to record the necessary video when nobody is at home. You must specify the transmission and the start time of the recording. Then you can watch your desired series or favorite show at any convenient time.

How to configure the timeshift function

Despite the fact that, depending on the model and company, the settings may vary slightly, they have a common algorithm. To do this, you must:

  1. Go to the device menu and find "Settings" in it.
  2. Select the "Recording Settings" sub-item.
  3. In the window that appears, you must specify all the necessary parameters and click "Save."

You need to connect the media to the TV on which the transfer will be recorded. If the recording will take place in real time, at the right time on the remote will need to press the appropriate button. This can be Pause or Freeze.

After pressing the button, the corresponding inscription that the recording is started will be displayed on the screen. Pressing the button on the remote control again will stop the recording process. The function allows you to switch to watching programs in real time at any time.

Despite the significant advantages, the time shift has several disadvantages:

  • Watch the broadcast on one channel, but can’t record on the other;
  • limited time to record a show.

Time is limited by the amount of cloud storage on the servers of the manufacturer of Smart-TV, or by an external storage device connected to the TV. For example, a volume of 500 MB is equal to 40 minutes of recording, and 1.5 GB is designed for almost two hours.

ATTENTION! Manufacturers in the instructions always indicate the permissible recording time. It is different on all models. This should be considered when buying a device.

Timeshift is a very convenient feature that allows you not to miss your favorite shows or return to watching a particular moment of a football match.
